JAMMU, Mar 25: The family members, political leaders and civil society activists today demanded an immediate CBI investigation into the circumstances of the custodial death of BSF constable Jaswinder Singh, while in the custody of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).
The demand was raised by Congress leader T S Tony in a press conference held here today.
Addressing to the media persons, Tony criticized the NCB for negligence and alleged custodial misconduct and called for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take over the case to ensure an impartial and credible probe.
He emphasized that deaths in custody, particularly of security personnel, require full transparency and accountability.
Tony and family members of the deceased, including Jaswinder Singh’s mother and wife, categorically rejected the NCB’s claim that he died of cardiac events.
They alleged he was physically tortured and mistreated during interrogation, pointing to visible injuries on his body.
They also stressed that the case was dismissed against him, the suspension order by the BSF had been revoked and he had been honoured with a guard of honour as a martyr.
Tony also condemned a misinformation campaign by reporter Ashish Kohli, who circulated false narratives to malign Jaswinder Singh’s reputation.
He informed that family announced plans to file a defamation case against Kohli to protect the jawan’s name and honour.
Among others who were present during the conference included DGPC Surjit, Balvinder Singh (RTI activist), Avtar Singh Member, Surjit Singh Gen Secy DGPC and Sarpanch Sham Lal Bhagat.
