JAMMU, Mar 26: The second leg of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly’s budget session is expected to begin on a stormy note on Friday, with opposition parties gearing up to corner the government over its poll promises and the restoration of statehood.
During the 18-day-long first half of the session, which began on February 2, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and his ministers presented the budget for the financial year 2026-27 and the supplementary statement of expenditure for 2025-26, besides grants of various ministries for their passage.
The second part of the budget session will be spread over March and April, with four and five days of business, respectively, officials said.
The session is expected to witness chaotic scenes as members of opposition parties are set to bring a private member’s bills and resolutions on various issues. They are also likely to corner the National Conference government over its poll promises and restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood.
Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather said all necessary preparations for the session have been completed with a focus on ensuring smooth conduct and effective utilisation of time. The budget session will conclude on April 4. (Agencies)
