JAMMU, Mar 26: The much-anticipated International Rating Chess Fiesta began at the IDPS School Junior Wing Extension C, Sainik Colony, with an enthusiastic inauguration by Commissioner Secretary, Youth Services & Sports, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary and MLA Nagrota, Devyani Rana, who made the ceremonial first move.
The event was graced by SSP Sheikh Zulfkar Azad, Suminder Singh, MD IDPS, Arunima Choudhary, MD IDPS, Atul Kumar Gupta, Chairman Planning and Development Commission of AICF, Meenal Gupta, President, All J&K Chess Association and other dignitaries.
A total of 120 players from nine states are participating under FIDE Laws of Chess, using the Swiss system. The nine-round tournament offers cash prizes worth Rs 2 lacs, while unrated participants have the opportunity to earn FIDE ratings based on performance. Organized by the Jammu District Chess Association in collaboration with Premier Chess Academy USA and IDPS School, the event is overseen by Chief Arbiter International Arbiter Varun Kumar, assisted by five arbiters. Dignitaries lauded the school and association for providing a grand platform to players, coaches, and arbiters.
