LEH, Mar 28: Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice Surya Kant today inaugurated the newly constructed District Court Complex at Melong Thang in Leh, marking a major boost to judicial infrastructure in the Union Territory of Ladakh.

The function was attended by Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena and Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh Justice Arun Palli, along with Justice Sindhu Sharma and other senior judicial officers.
Justice Surya Kant was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour on arrival, followed by a traditional cultural welcome.
A commemorative plaque was unveiled to mark the inauguration, and officials presented a detailed overview of the complex, highlighting modern courtrooms, administrative blocks and residential facilities.
The Chief Justice later inspected various sections of the complex, including the Court of the Principal District and Sessions Judge.
On the occasion, the Chief Justice also inaugurated the newly constructed Ladakh Legal Services Authority building at the same site. A plantation drive was carried out by the dignitaries within the premises.
Speaking to media persons, Justice Surya Kant expressed satisfaction over the creation of modern judicial infrastructure and said the facilities would improve access to justice for the people of Leh for years to come.
He also announced that a similar District Court Complex at Kargil will be inaugurated during his ongoing visit.
The District Court Complex has been constructed at a cost of Rs 54.85 crore, while the Legal Services Authority building has been completed at a cost of Rs 5.70 crore.
Senior officers, including the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police and other civil and judicial officials, were present on the occasion.
Later, the Chief Justice also inspected the state-of-the-art High Court Guest House at Melong Thang.
The new court complex is expected to strengthen the justice delivery system in Ladakh by providing improved facilities and accessibility.
