NHM employees announce 48-hour strike from Apr 1

Srinagar, Mar 29: The J&K National Health Mission Employees Association (JKNHMEA) today announced a 48-hour sit-in protest and strike across the Union Territory beginning April 1, to press for long-pending demands related to pay revision, job security, and social welfare measures.
According to the Association, employees from all districts will participate in the protest, with workers from the Kashmir division assembling at Sher-i-Kashmir Park in Srinagar, which will serve as the main venue.
The decision to go on strike was taken after repeated assurances from authorities allegedly failed to translate into concrete action, leaving key issues unresolved.
The Association said the protest would be a “peaceful yet firm democratic course” to seek redress.
JKNHMEA leaders said their core demands include immediate pay revision in line with other states, formulation of a secure job policy, and implementation of comprehensive social security measures such as EPF, ESI, insurance, and post-retirement benefits.
JKNHMEA Kashmir President Muneer Andrabi said NHM employees have played a critical role in strengthening public healthcare in J&K but continue to face uncertainty due to lack of fair pay and job security.
JKNHMEA Jammu President Dr. Vikas Sharma said the absence of a structured job policy and equitable remuneration has created insecurity among employees, prompting the need for collective action.
Meanwhile, Musadiq Rafeeq, President of the RNTCP Employees Association, extended support to the strike, stating that the issues faced by employees across NHM verticals are interconnected.
