Rafiabad residents urge authorities to reopen tourist destinations

SRINAGAR, Mar 31: Residents in the Rafiabad area of Sopore in Baramulla district today urged authorities to reopen several key tourist destinations that have remained closed following the Pahalgam terror attack last year.
The sites, including Mundagi and Keterdaji, are considered among the most prominent and easily accessible spots in the region. Locals say their prolonged closure has disrupted livelihoods, particularly affecting young people engaged in tourism-related activities.
The residents said that reopening these destinations would provide much-needed employment opportunities. “These places are a lifeline for many families here. Tourism is one of the few sources of income for our youth,” Shabir Ahmad,a local said.
Another resident, Mudasir Ahmad, said the sites have remained shut since the Pahalgam incident and urged the authorities to take immediate action. “We request the administration and the Lieutenant Governor to reopen these destinations. They are vital for our livelihood and are the nearest tourist spots for people in Rafiabad,” he said.
Residents also highlighted other scenic locations in the area, including Mundaji, Hamaam Markoot, Burdaji Waterfall, Ladu Viji Top and Bosien Kahmooh, saying that these places have significant tourism potential and should be promoted to revive economic activity.
