Golden Jubilee celebrations of Bangladesh’s Independence
Need to protect Indira’s ideals from fascist tendencies of BJP: Sawhney

JAMMU: Congress party on Thursday celebrated Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh’s Independence at PCC Headquarters at Shaheedi Chowk. Former Minister Raman Bhalla Vice President PCC & Former Minister Yogesh Sawhney General Secretary PCC Incharge District President Jammu (Urban) along with other senior Congress leaders were also present during the function. They congratulated the people of Bangladesh on 50 years of independence and remembered former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi for playing an important role in the liberation of Bangladesh. The day marks emergence of the nation as an independent country in 1971 following a nine-month-long bloodstained war of Liberation against Pakistan. Prominent senior leaders Rajveer Singh, Karan Bhagat, Kapil Singh, Dr. Ramakant Khajuria, Sanjeev Sharma, Satish Sharma, Rickey Dalotra, Chandershekhar Sharma, Atul Sharma, Vijay Chib and Rakesh Sharma were also present on the occasion.
Speaking during the function, former Minister Raman Bhalla said that the entire country is joyful for Bangladesh’s 50 years of independence. “India is also proud because it was one of our leaders who was Bangladesh’s biggest ally -Iron Lady, Indira Gandhi. She wanted a democratic Bangladesh. She envisioned a mature, parliamentary democracy in Bangladesh. She wanted Bangladesh to be a democratic nation,” said Bhalla, adding that it was only the strong leadership of Indira Gandhi which forced Pakistan to surrender in front of Indian forces. Former Minister Yogesh Sawhney said that after a long struggle of the army, Bangladeshi civilians and freedom fighters gained independence. He further stated Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister and leaders of Congress played a very important role in freedom of Bangladesh. It was only her magnificent leadership which broke Pakistan into two pieces, he added. He further said that the ideals and values, for which she stood for entire her life, must be protected and guarded from fascist tendencies of BJP Government.
