JAMMU: Shiv Sena Bala Saheb Thackeray Jammu and Kashmir unit today staged a strong protest against phone tapping and took out funeral procession of smart phone.
Dozens of Shiv Sainiks led by party president UT J&K , Manish Sahni amid vociferous slogans staged a symbolic funeral of smart phones during the protest.
While addressing the gathering, Manish demanded a high level probe into this latest scam and nail the culprits under the Personal Data Protection Act.
Terming phone tapping as a violation of freedom of expression, he said that only an independent agency should be asked to investigate and probe this serious spying activity. He said it’s not only a matter of privacy but is an attack on the voice of the people.
Sahni said that politicians, journalists, industrialists and even the common man is scared of using smart phones suspecting that someone else might be listening to the conversation or stealing the data.
He said that in view of the instant phone tapping been carried out by a foreign company’s software, there is every probability of its proving to be a challenge for the security of the country. Accusing the incumbent central government of having crossed all the limits of arbitrariness, Shiv Sena President said that it is really an irony that this government has been making controversial statements on significant issues. Economic slowdown, inflation, unemployment etc have already robbed the common man and broken his spine were not enough, that now the violation of freedom of expression through phone tapping has come to fore.
He appealed to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to order a thorough probe into the issue by an independent agency and formulate strict laws to ensure that such acts do not happen in future.
On this occasion, President Women’s Wing Meenakshi Chhibber, General Secretary Vikas Bakshi, Chairman Rakesh Gupta, Vice President Vikas Dewan, Secretary Praveen Gupta, Geeta Lakhotra, Balbir Singh, Rajesh Handa, Tarsem, Meena Devi, Surjit Kumar and many leaders and workers were present.
