JAMMU: Welcoming recent declaration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to observe December 26 annually as, ‘Veer Baal Diwas’ to pay homage to courage and martyrdom of Four Sahibzades (four sons) of Guru Gobind Singh, a number of Sikh organisations have said that this historical declaration would provide a major boost to morale of Sikh community.
While addressing a press conference in Jammu on Tuesday, Ranjodh Singh Nalwa, Chairman J&K Sikh Welfare Front and Harasis Singh, President J&K Sikh Council along with other Sikh leaders, said that after independence of India, it is only the present government headed by Narendra Modi, which has acknowledged great sacrifices of Guru Gobind Singh against repressive policies of Mughals. “This decision of present Government, remembering ideals of bravery of Mata Gujjar Kour, is a matter of great pride for entire Sikh community and real tributes to courage and sacrifices of Sahibzades and other martyrs of Sikh community, on their quest for justice and truth,” said Sikh leaders, adding that Sikh community always remained in forefront for defence of motherland, on the principals laid down by great Gurus. They further urged Prime Minister for providing more opportunities to Sikh community for serving the nation, by ensuring their representation in Assembly, Parliament and other important fields.
The leaders further appealed to the Prime Minister to reconsider suggestions of Jathedar Shri Akal Takhat Sahib and (SGPC) Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee Amritsar for naming December 26 as per Gurmat terminology and Sikh traditions besides requesting all Sikh organisations to write letters of appreciation and thanks to Prime Minister for the historical step.
Others present on the occasion included Ranjit Singh, Devinder Singh, Surinder Singh, Sohan Singh, Manpreet Singh, Rangil Singh and Jaspreet Singh.
