JAMMU: In the first-ever feat in Jammu and Kashmir, Sood Eye Care Jammu conducted an advanced cataract surgery by implanting latest Trifocal IOL in patient’s eye.
As per a statement issued by the clinic, a senior Government Officer was diagnosed with a cataract. He consulted Dr R D Sood, an experienced Ophthalmologist of J&K, who after performing some tests, suggested him to undergo Trifocal IOL Implant surgery. The latest-generation trifocal offers clear vision at middle distances, which is generally anything at an arm’s length. This is in addition to providing near and far vision. Trifocal lenses allow a person to switch effortlessly between all three distances – near (reading) distance, long-distance and in-between (intermediate) distances.
These tiny implants replace natural lens of eye, which is removed during cataract surgery. Earlier, this technique was being used in metropolitan cities only but now it is available in Jammu also, the statement added.
Dr Sood performed the surgery without giving any local anesthesia (injection) to patient, as the surgery is pain-less, stitch-less and bloodless. While talking about surgery, Dr R D Sood said that the surgery requires much patience and calmness not only in patients but in doctors as well, as lens is very delicate and thin, requiring a skilled doctor to implant it in patient’s eye. The surgery lasted for about 10 minutes and was one of the quickest surgery ever-done and patient, after surgery, drove car back home himself.
