JAMMU: To encourage medallists and promote sports in every nook and corner of the Union Territory, Director Youth Services and Sports, Gazanfar Ali honoured J&K nominees for Asian Kurash Championship in a simple function in his office chambers, here today.
Sr National Kurash Championship on Tuesday.
Director Sports felicitated young sportspersons- Danish Sharma and Ujjwal Sharma who won gold medals in Senior National Kurash Championship held at Sonipat in Haryana recently.
Danish bagged gold in 90 kg category, while Ujjwal claimed the same in 100 kgs weight category.
For this achievement, both these Karatekas/ Judokas have been selected for the forthcoming Senior Asian Kurash Championship to be held at Tashkent in Uzbekistan in the next month.
Judo Coach of the Department of Youth Services and Sports, Varinder Sharma is coach cum trainer of these athletes.
While appreciating the achievements of both these medal winners, Director Sports said that Government is committed to raise sports infra, promote sports culture and efforts are on to produce International stuff from the Union Territory.
He said after the implementation of J&K own Sports Policy, the sportspersons have become much secured and chances of opting sports as a career option have increased by leaps and bounds.
