Udhampur blast an unsolved mystery, many questions still unanswered

UDHAMPUR: Three days have passed and Udhampur blast is still emerging as an unsolved mystery, though police and other investigating agencies have expedite their investigations at war-footing to crack the case, but till date police has failed to achieve any success or even confirm the nature of blast that whether it was a local hand-made explosive or an Improvised Explosive Device.
Pertinent to mention here that on March 9, at around 12.50 PM a blast rocked a crowded locality Slathia Chowk wherein one person died while 17 other got critically injured. While talking to STATE TIMES, majority of local vendors and shopkeepers, who are still in distress and reeling under immense sense of fear, said that Slathia Chowk, despite being a vital locality surrounded with residence of Sub-Judge Udhampur and offices of Tehsildar, Naib Tehsildar Udhampur, court complex, District headquarters, have no CCTV camera installed. Locals said many times the issued has already been brought into the notice of administration but it was ignored every-time. On condition of unanimity, a local vendor revealed that just 15 minutes before blast, an unknown person had purchased tomatoes of Rs 100 from him but kept the tomatoes bag there at Rehri, saying that he will collect it later. It was informed that yesterday police brought injured victims including wife of deceased Chajjar Kumar on spot to enquire about blast. Beside this, number of investigating agencies including NIA, SIA, IB and others are visiting the spot to analyze spot and to find out explosive material used in blast. While interacting with STATE TIMES, SSP Udhampur Vinod Kumar said that police is doing its best to resolve blast mystery soon. It will be early to say anything because matter is being investigated at priority as police has taken a serious cognizance of the same, he added. Replying to installation of CCTV cameras in town, he said that proposal to install CCTV cameras has already been sent to police headquarters, however police is holding meetings with representatives of different organizations and councilors, shopkeepers along with Chamber of Industries & Commerce to cooperate with police administration to ensure safety and security of common man, he added.
