JAMMU: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Farooq Khan on Sunday resigned, sources said, adding that he is likely to get an important assignment in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Late in the evening Khan confirmed to STATE TIMES about his resignation and said that he will be actively working as a political worker.
The former Administrator of Lakshadweep and IGP in J&K Police, Khan had taken up the assignment as Advisor to LG during the gubernatorial tenure of the former Governor Satya Pal Malik. Soon after the reorganization of the state of J&K State, he was retained as Advisor by the then LG GS Murmu.
Sources said that Farooq Khan is likely to play an important role ahead of the elections to Legislative Assembly, in view of his track record as a police officer and administrator. Khan is seen as an asset, given his accessibility to the people of all the regions and sub regions of J&K.
Farooq Khan (born 1955), former police officer retired in 2013 as Inspector General of Police (IGP). Khan is known for the creation of Special Task Force (STF) of Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) as well as being its first head in 1995. STF later go on to be renamed as the Special Operations Group (SOG). Khan joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2014 and was appointed the National Secretary of the party in June 2015. He served as the 32nd Administrator of Lakshadweep till July 2019.
