Jammu: Two terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Rajouri district on Friday, officials said.
The operation is going on in the Thanamandi forest belt area and so far, two terrorists have been killed, they said.
“It is a group of three to four terrorists of which two are foreign terrorists,” Additional Director General of Police, (ADGP), Jammu Zone, Mukesh Singh said, adding that “we feel they have moved from Kashmir to this side”.
Security forces were tracking a group of terrorists in the forest belts of the district for the past one month through digital surveillance, he said.
“Today, we got inputs from Thanamandi and contact was established with the terrorists, resulting in an encounter in the forest belt,” Singh said.
Firing started as soon as security forces zeroed-in on the location of the militants, the officials said.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajouri Sheema Nabi Qasba, is supervising the operation.
A police spokesperson said that while the searches were going on, two AK 47 Rifles with 7 Magazines, four grenades some pouches and packets of medicine were recovered from the possession of slain terrorists.
In another incident in Rajpura area of Samba district, troops of Army and Police recovered one gunny bag wrapped in with plastic tape. On search, 02 Pistols, 05 Magazines, 122 rounds and one silencer were found in the packet. Investigation has been initiated in this regard
The Security forces also recovered a cache of arms and ammunition in the border belt of the Samba district, officials said.
On a tip off, police and army conducted a search operation in Sarthian hamlet, they said.
During the search, they recovered two pistols, five magazines and 122 ammunition rounds in a gunny bag, they said.
The arms were possibly dropped by a drone from across the border. However, further investigation is on, they said.
Security forces also recovered two wireless communication sets, batteries and some torches during an operation that was launched near a sheep farm in Balnoi area of Poonch district.
