KATHUA: After 20 years, the wheat earrings shining like gold on 800 Kanals in front of the cordon, are giving the message of changing the fate of this area as DC Kathua, Rahul Yadav along with Chief Agriculture Kathua Vijay Upadhyay and BSF officials started harvesting wheat crop.
The administration had planted this crop with the aim of motivating the local farmers to take up farming across the fencing. Farmers have also been given full security by BSF. Guns have been quiet on the border since February, while the improved crop has started attracting farmers as well. After harvesting, the border farmers will be able to go to their fields in front of the wire and plant the next crops at any time.
In fact, in 2002, due to the tense atmosphere created by heavy shelling by Pakistan along the international border, farmers stopped cultivating the lands in front of the cordon. With the aim of motivating the farmers to cultivate again here, the district administration, with the help of BSF, started the process of making the land beyond the Tarbandi cultivable, which has now reached its end. The crop is ripe and ready.
In the border sector of Hiranagar, it was seen when Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Rahul Yadav, Chief Agriculture Officer Vijay Upadhyay and second-in- Command officers of the Border Security Force of Chandwan Post started the work of harvesting the wheat crop located across the cordon.
Kathua Rahul Yadav told that after the ceasefire in February last year, the government had decided to start the exercise to make the barren land of the farmers lying vacant before the cordon fertile. Last year the land was cleaned and made cultivable. Chief Agriculture Officer Vijay Upadhyay told that in the farmers had planted wheat crop outside the wireband on 148 acres of land. He hoped that the farmers would get good yield this time so that they would be financially strong.
BSF DIG Hari Lal said that farmers should work fearlessly in their fields. We are there for their safety. If they are still afraid to go to the fields, then we will also send soldiers with them for their safety.
