JAMMU: Charaka, father of Indian Medicine, was one of the among most revered physician of Ayurveda. Ayurvedic fraternity all over the globe celebrate his birthday as Charaka Jayanti.
In this regard, Govt. Ayurvedic Hospital Shalamar, organized a Charaka Quiz contest in which interns posted in Govt. Ayurvedic Hospital participated.
The programme was organized under the guidance of Dr. Mohan Singh, Director AYUSH J&K and supervision of Dr. Vandana Dogra, Medical Superintendent Govt. Ayurvedic Hospital.
In the quiz competition, questions about the principles and practices of Acharaya Charaka in the management of various disorders, health promotion and disease preventions were asked from the participants.
The quiz comprised of three rounds and teams were named on various subsections of Charak Samhita.
Team Shareer comprising of Karnika Bamotra, Mehak Sagar, Bharti and Tanya won the quiz contest. Team of medical officers, Dr. Lotika Bharti, Dr. Amardeep and Dr. Arun Gupta conducted the quiz competition. Director AYUSH J&K, Dr. Mohan Singh declared the results and distributed prizes among the winners.
In his address to gathering of Medical Officers, para-medical staff and interns of Govt Ayurvedic Hospital, Director AYUSH emphasized that works of Acharaya Charaka is not a literary piece of Sanskrit language but an encyclopedia of personalized and participatory practice of medicine which are thought to be concepts of new age were actually conceptualized by the Great Thinker.
He also urged students as envisaged in Charak Samhita, the three dimensions of medicine must be perfected before practice of medicine for public welfare i.e. Conceptual knowledge, skill and management.
He highlighted the doctor patient relationships and medical ethics emphasized by Acharaya Charaka and expressed that Ayurveda fraternity will keep following the tradition of clinical practice promulgated by Acharaya Charaka. Director AYUSH J&K was accompanied by Assistant Director Dr. Rakesh Kumar Raina.
In her vote of thanks, Medical Superintendent GAH expressed that such programs infuse a sense of enthusiasm and zeal to revisit the classical treatises and must be organized to refresh the AYUSH doctor fraternity.
