STATE TIMES NEWS

JAMMU: Congress has sought the intervention of the visiting Parliamentary Committee on Home Affairs seeking implementation of the full relief and rehabilitation package for displaced people and refugees of 1947, 1965 and 1971 from PoJK, Chhamb and West Pakistan.
In a communication to the chairman of the committee who are currently on tour of Jammu and Kashmir, JKPCC Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma has sought the attention of the committee towards the various pending issues of the DPs and refugees including seeking full implementation of the 2014 package recommended by the then state govt to the centre and fully endorsed by the parliamentary committee on Home Affairs which had enhanced the financial relief from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 30 lakh per family.
Regrettably, only Rs 5.5 lakh per family was sanctioned in the year 2015, which too has not been released /disbursed to large number of families, even after more than five years while the rest of the components of the package were thrown into dustbin.
Sharma regretted that the committee did not invite the refugee representatives to enquire about the implementation of the package, also endorsed and recommended by this Parliamentary Committee on Home Affairs to review its implementation.
It was necessary for the committee to meet the representatives from different quarters to know the ground realities from the perception of the public on various aspects of the situation including security situation but that has not happened, he regretted.
