JAMMU: Considering the unrest in the society, loss of revenue to the government and loss of livelihood of the Old licensees, Jammu Wine Traders Association (JWTA) asked government to restore the previous policy and allow the old licensees to run their shops for at least 2 years.
“The main aim of Excise Policy was to generate more revenue than previous years but the revenue has definitely fallen in comparison to the previous years,” JWTA Spokesperson Charanjeet Singh said in a press conference held at Press Club of Jammu on Saturday.
“Liquor is being sold by outsiders at the higher rates in Jammu but no check is being made by the government directly effecting the pocket of the local people of J&K,” he said adding that no new employment was generated from this excise policy and the people who were involved in this business were made unemployed.
Majority of the Old licensee have lost their livelihood and their financial condition is worsening day by day because government did not formulate any Rehabilitation Policy for the Old licensees before announcing the Excise Policy 2021-2022, he said and added “Some of our license holders are bed ridden or in such a medical condition that they can’t earn their livelihood by doing any other work and this is their only source of income.”
He asked government to restore previous policy and allow old licensees to run their shops for at least 2 years.
