Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who has fled to Maldives amid widespread protests, is likely to resign from his post on Wednesday. As President, Gotabaya enjoyed immunity from arrest. Moreover, it is nearly impossible in Sri Lanka to oust presidents under the constitution unless they resign on their own.According to officials, Gotabaya feared that he will be in immediate danger of arrest if he resigns while still in the country.
