PMJDY emerged as lifeline for crores of people during pandemic: Vibodh

JAMMU: The world’s largest financial inclusion scheme Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana that has completed its seven years has made the PM Narendra Modi Ji vision of banking the unbanked, securing the unsecured and funding the unfunded possible, said BJP J&K general secretary and former MLC Vibodh Gupta while addressing media persons in the party headquarter, Trikuta Nagar, Jammu. Vibodh Gupta was accompanied by BJP J&K secretaries Ch. Vikram Randhawa (former MLC) and Arvind Gupta.
“Since its inception in 2014, more than 43 crore bank accounts have been opened under the PM Jan Dhan Yojana, with a deposit balance of 1.46 lakh crore. About 67% of rural and semi-urban areas have been covered and more than half of the account holders are women”, said Vibodh.
Stressing upon no need to maintain any balance in the account Vibodh, said that those people who were afraid to maintain the account are now able to use the banking services for all types of financial needs. He further highlighted the key features of this scheme that included the opening of a basic savings bank deposit account with relaxed KYC, zero balance, and zero charges.
Gupta further said that PM Jan Dhan Yojna during the Covid19 pandemic played a crucial role in the implementation and execution of various relief schemes of the central government. “The scheme emerged as a lifeline for crores of people,” he added.
Vikram Randhawa said that poverty reduction was the main target under this scheme by laying special emphasis on financial inclusion of citizens. It will help in the growth of our Nation and it has yielded its results which are visible to everyone in the tough time of Corona Pandemic, he said.
Arvind Gupta said that PMJDY focuses on coverage of every adult and rural as well as urban area. He said that this scheme had given financial freedom to every person in need.
