JAMMU: The festival of Janmashtami, commemorating the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna, was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety in Jammu with temples witnessing huge rush of devotees since early this morning. Devotees thronged temples to pay their obeisance to Lord Krishna on the occasion of Janmashtami.
“Janmashtami is a very significant festival in the Hindu religion and every year, I, along with my family, make sure to pay obeisance at the temple here,” a devotee said.
Children dressed in colourful attires as Krishna and Radha while some people celebrated the day by flying kites on their rooftops. On Sunday, Dharmarth Trust celebrated Shri Krishna Janmashtami with religious fervour and enthusiasm here in the premises of historical Raghunathji Temple amid COVID-19 norms to prevent the spread of coronavirus. As per the rituals, the idol of Lord Krishan was taken out from the sanctum of Holy Raghunath Mandir and Parikarma was performed inside the temple premises as the Shobha Yatra was cancelled in the wake of coronavirus.
The event lasted upto midnight the birth time of Lord Krishna. The temple was decorated with buntings and colorful flowers befitting the occasion.
Generally, the Shri Krishna Janmotsav marked the celebrations with colossal horde of devotees and visitors converging to offer prayers and take blessings of Lord Krishna.
