LEH/GURUGRAM: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a Maharatna PSU under Ministry of Power, Government of India, has provided key medical equipments for critical care of patients in Leh for strengthening the medical infrastructure of the UT Ladakh.

Singh, Director (Personnel) POWERGRID handed over the medical equipments to Tashi Gyalson, Chief Executive Counsellor, Leh, in presence of Ravinder Kumar, Secretary (Energy) Leh, Kailash Rathore, Executive Director, NR-II, POWERGRID, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, DC Leh, Tarun Bajaj, Chief General Manager (Projects) POWERGRID and other senior officials of POWERGRID, Jammu Kashmir Power Development Department (JKPDD) and Health Department of Leh.
On this occasion, Chief Executive Counsellor (Leh) flagged off vaccine delivery van, dedicated to people of Leh.
The medical equipments costing Rs 63 lakhs, includes one vaccine delivery van, three transport ventilators for critical care and medical equipments including thirteen multipara monitors, six ice lined refrigerators, nine deep freezers, four cardiotocography (CTG) machines, forty BP monitoring apparatus, eight trauma care recovery trollies, twenty pulse oximeters etc.
On June 28, Director (Personnel) POWERGRID had also handed over one vaccine delivery van, twelve ice lined refrigerators and nine deep freezers costing Rs 29 lakhs in Kargil.
These CSR efforts of POWERGRID will augment the existing health infrastructure for Ladakh region and will support extension of life saving services to greater number of needy people in remote places, through timely medical care at local health centers/hospitals.
Earlier, POWERGRID had contributed Rs 1.72 crore towards various activities under CSR in the UT of Ladakh.
POWERGRID is also supporting Ladakh region in rural electrification infrastructure at far flung villages under various schemes of Government of India like PMDP, DDUGJY, and one 66/11 kV sub-station in Leh and two 33/11 kV Sub-stations in Nubra are being established, which will feed to various adjoining villages, improving the power availability.
Under these schemes, POWERGRID is electrifying 39 villages at a cost of Rs 97 crore in Leh district. Further, under PMDP scheme, the 66 kV power line network will also be strengthened at a cost of about ?30 crore.
In order to boost employment opportunities for local youth, POWERGRID has planned a special recruitment drive for junior engineers from Ladakh region specifically.
POWERGRID has built a 335-km long transmission line and four state-of-the-art 220/66 kV GIS and 66 kV interconnection systems at Drass, Kargil, Khaltsi and Leh which connects the Ladakh region to the national grid, ensuring quality and reliable power supply in the region.
POWERGRID has 171,950 ckm of transmission lines, 262 substations and more than 444,738 MVA of transformation capacity. With the adoption of latest technological tools and techniques, enhanced use of automation and digital solutions, POWERGRID has been able to maintain average transmission system availability >99%.
