LG pays tributes to martyrs of J&K Police who sacrificed their lives in serving & protecting nation

JAMMU: After a gap of three years, the daylong police-public fair was held here on Sunday, drawing a huge number of people.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the 33rd Police-Public Mela at the Gulshan Ground here and said the fair has emerged as a powerful platform for police officers and members of the public to interact with each other and celebrate the shared heritage.
Sinha commended the Jammu and Kashmir Police Wives’ Welfare Association (JKPWWA), the organiser of the fair, for carrying out various initiatives throughout the year to address the concerns of the families of the deceased and serving police personnel.
The LG paid tributes to the police personnel who sacrificed their lives in the service of the nation.
“We will forever be grateful to our bravehearts and their families who made the supreme sacrifice to protect the sovereignty and integrity of the country,” he said.
The LG went around the stalls put up by various police establishments, districts and the Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihood Mission (JKRLM) and interacted with the family members of police personnel.
Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh and JKPWWA chairperson Rubinder Kaur briefed the LG about the extensive arrangements made for the fair and the activities undertaken for the welfare of the families of the Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel.
“We are happy to organise the mela for the first time after the outbreak of COVID-19. The main purpose of the mela is to provide an opportunity to the families of police personnel and the public, besides the families of police martyrs to meet each other,” the DGP said.
He said the raffle draw is a big attraction of the mela and most of the money earned through it goes in buying the prizes, while the amount saved goes to the police welfare fund and is utilised to address the concerns of the families of the slain personnel or those who have been injured in encounters or fallen sick.
A police spokesperson said a total of 7,847 prizes were up for grabs at the fair, including 21 cars, seven scooties, motorcycles, television sets and refrigerators each.
Besides the draw of lots, various events, such as a painting competition for children and cultural programmes, were organised during the day. Meanwhile, raffle draw of the 33rd Police Public Mela organised under the aegis of Police Wives Welfare Association (PWWA), was held at Gulshan Ground here today in presence of huge number of people who cheered joyfully during the draw.
The Mela was inaugurated by LG J&K Manoj Sinha. The Chief Secretary J&K, A.K Mehta, ACS (FC) Home, J&K, R.K Goyal, top civil, CAPFs, police officers participated in different functions of the Mela. The event witnessed overwhelming participation of the public.

Srinivas, Spl DGs R.R Swain, A.K Coundhary, ADsGP SJM Gillani, Dr S D Singh Jamwal, Mukesh Singh, M.K Sinha, Danesh Rana, Chairperson Police Wives Welfare Association, Dr Rubinder Kaur, Senior PWWA members, IGsP Vikramjeet Singh and B S Tuti, DIsG Sarah Rizvi, Shridhar Patil, Nisha Nathyal and a galaxy of serving and retire civil and police officers attended the event.
At the end of the raffle draw, Dr. Rubinder Kaur Chairperson PWWA and other PWWA members distributed prizes among the best selected stalls of the Mela.
Highest sale among Subsidiary Police Welfare Centres (SPWC); 1st Prize of Rs.10000 was given to SPWC Anantnag, 2nd prize of Rs. 7500 to SPWC Kathua and 3rd prize of Rs.5000 to SPWC Poonch. Highest sale during Covid-19 to PWC Jammu of Rs.10000 and highest sale in Meal was given to PWC Srinagar of Rs. 10000. Overall presentation of the stall was given to District Reasi of Rs. 1000.
Earlier, the Chief Secretary J&K A.K Mehta alongwith the DGP and chairperson PWWA distributed prizes among the winners of Healthy Baby Competition and painting competition. These competitions were organized by PWWA as a part of the Police Public Mela.
In the junior category of painting competition the prizes were given to Jahanveer Singh of J&K Police Public School Jammu, Rayna Dogra of J&K Police Public School Jammu, Soni Kumari of Govt. Girl Hr. Sec.School Gandhi Nagar besides consolation prizes were also given to Aradhya Rana of K.V. No.1 Gandhi Nagar, Avni Thakyal of J&K Police Public School Jammu and Nakshita Choudhary of J&K Police Public School Jammu.
In the senior category of painting competition, the prizes were given to Simran of M.V. International School, Sirjan Kour of Carmel Convent Hr. School and Shavi Bhagatof J&K Police Public School Jammu besides Consolation prizes were given to Manpreet Kour, Adarsh Bhagat and Parvarish Choudhary all from J&K Police Public School Jammu.
During the Mela Police Hospital Jammu organized a medical camp and checked a number of patients besides distributed free medicine. A number of tests including free blood sugar were conducted besides weight and BP checking was also conducted.
The camp also conducted HIV and AIDS counseling sessions. An official song of Police Hospital Jammu and a documentary on the hospital was also released during the event.
During the mega event, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd under its CSR donated 02 Vans to Police Public School Jammu.
