JAMMU, May 7: Government of Jammu and Kashmir today ordered constitution of District Level Pashu Kalyan Samities (PKS) for effective use of available healthcare facilities, enhancing livestock healthcare infrastructure and engaging dairy farmers to boost productivity in the sector in J&K Union Territory.
Headed by the Deputy Commissioner concerned, PKS shall develop strategies for involving and improving livestock healthcare systems, focusing on enhanced efficiency and effectiveness in doorstep delivery of veterinary healthcare services with efficient use of mobile veterinary units.
The Samities shall prepare district specific work plans, propose and oversee the up-gradation and modernization of veterinary hospitals and dispensaries to ensure state of the art and modern infrastructure is available for welfare and care of livestock.
PKS shall identity and devise method to generate additional resources through veterinary health care services such as fee, service charges etc for strengthening and sustaining livestock healthcare systems.
Besides devising a roadmap for organizing and managing outreach services and health camps to extend livestock healthcare services to uncovered areas, the Samities shall encourage and facilitate the involvement of community representatives in decision-making process.
Chief Animal Husbandry Officer shall be Member Secretary of the Pashu Kalyan Samities, comprising Progressive farmers and others as the members.
