JAMMU, May 29: Taranjit Singh Tony, General Secretary of J&K Pradesh Congress Committee and DDC Suchetgarh, has strongly condemned the Government for enforcing scheduled power cuts amidst the severe heatwave sweeping across the Jammu region.
In a statement issued here today, Tony highlighted that the temperature has reached a scorching 47 degrees Celsius in Kathua and 44 degrees Celsius in the Jammu district yesterday. “Instead of providing relief to the people during this extreme heatwave, the Government is rubbing salt on their wounds by imposing long scheduled power cuts,” he stated.
Tony criticized the Government’s failure to deliver on its promise of regular and uninterrupted power supply after installing Smart Meters. “There is no iota of doubt that the Government is charging hefty amounts from the people of Jammu. The installation of Smart Meters came with the assurance of a stable and 24×7 power supply. However, now, at the peak of summer, the electricity department has announced extended scheduled power cuts, leaving residents to suffer in this extreme heat,” he said.
The senior Congress leader warned the Government to reconsider its approach, emphasizing the growing frustration among the people. “The Government must amend its ways immediately. If this negligence continues, the people will have no option left but to home to the streets to voice their resentment,” he cautioned.
Tony called for urgent action from the authorities to address this dire situation and provide relief to the people of Jammu, who are enduring extreme hardships due to the sweltering heat and lack of electricity.
