Police freeze properties of drug lord worth Rs 2 cr in Bishnah

JAMMU, June 3: Jammu and Kashmir Police have frozen the properties of a drug lord in Bishnah worth approximately Rs 2 crores.
Properties of drug supply network kingpin Chirag Atri alias Chetan of Chak Jaralan, Tehsil Bishnah, have been frozen under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act as part of a drive against drug peddlers under Operation Sanjeevani, a senior police officer said.
He said Atri is a habitual and repeated offender who’s facing several NDPS cases registered in different police stations. “He was detained under the PIT NDPS recently,” said the police officer.
According to him, a land under Khasra number 345 at Village Chak Jaralan, Bishnah, a commercial pacca hall at Village Chak Chua, Bishnah, and a Swift vehicle (JK02DE-6002) belonging to the drug supplier have been frozen.
“The action was taken under section 68-E, F of the NDPS Act of 1985 and is linked with different cases of NDPS Act registered against the drug supplier,” said the police officer.
The police officer further said that the properties were acquired through the proceeds of illicit trafficking in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances by the drug lord.
Meanwhile, in a statement, police have urged people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood and warned that any person found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt with strictly as per the law.
