JAMMU, Nov 29: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu & Kashmir Branch office organized a two-day mentors’ training program on Learning Science via Standards (LSVS), here.
The program was inaugurated by Islam Khan, Assistant Commissioner, Kendriya Vidyalaya Regional Office, Jammu, who graced the event as the chief guest. He commended BIS for its initiative and appreciated the LSVS Training Program, highlighting its importance in equipping teachers and mentors with the tools to inspire students in quality education and standardization.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from over 80 attendees, including science teachers and mentors from standard clubs across the districts of Jammu, Reasi, Kathua and Samba.
A significant highlight of the program was a visit to the BIS Referral Assaying Laboratory, Jammu, on the second day. Participants observed advanced gold testing methods such as cupellation, partition, and XRF, gaining a deeper understanding of how BIS standards are applied to ensure the quality and authenticity of gold products.
The program was executed under the guidance of Tilak Raj, Director and Head of BIS J&K Branch. The inaugural ceremony featured the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by chief guest Islam Khan, symbolizing the beginning of a meaningful knowledge-sharing event.
Facilitated by Hitesh Yadav, Deputy Director, J&K Branch, and Ashish Kumar Dwivedi, Standard Promotion Officer, the program featured insightful sessions by resource persons Monika Sharma and Mehak Rasool.
Their sessions focused on the importance of BIS-certified products in promoting quality and safety standards, equipping science teachers with methods to apply scientific knowledge in understanding quality and standards, and developing lesson plans that connect theoretical concepts to real-world applications.
The event featured interactive discussions and hands-on activities, enriching the understanding of Learning Science via Standards. Outstanding mentors who excelled in implementing BIS standard club activities in their schools were recognized and presented with mementoes. Additionally, 16 school mentors were honoured for their contributions to conducting standard club activities with students.
