“Such programs are essential. Until our women get their rights, the country cannot become strong. They make up 50 percent of the population, and it is time they receive what is rightfully theirs,” he said.
Commenting on the ruckus in the Assembly, he said: “Enemies have always existed, but we will do what is necessary to bring Jammu and Kashmir out of its difficulties.”
He stressed the need to work towards ensuring women’s rights, especially now that the Parliament has passed the women’s reservation bill.
Dr Farooq also announced that a Women’s Centre will be established in J&K, with all necessary support being extended for its development.
“We will set up a Women’s Centre in J&K. We are the crown of India, and we will start this initiative from here. I have asked them to identify the land, and we will provide all the required assistance,” he said.
The NC president further emphasized that increased participation of women in the Assembly, as DDC members, and in panchayats would empower them to effectively fight for their rights.
