TIRUMALA, Jan 11: A day after Its trust board in its emergency meeting resolved to speed up the process of financial assistance to families of the deceased and injured in Wednesday’s stampede in Tirupati, the Tirumala Tirupati Devathanam (TTD) on Saturday afternoon decided to hand over ex-gratia cheques to stampede victims from Sunday.
In this regard, a meeting was held with the board members under the chairmanship of TTD Trust Board Chief BR Naidu in his camp office at Tirumala.
In the tragic incident, six pilgrims lost their lives and over 40 devotees were injured.
The TTD Chairman said two committees were formed with a few board members to personally visit and hand over the ex-gratia cheques of Rs. 25 lakh each to the families of the deceased.
The team includes board members Jotula Nehru, Janga Krishnamurthy, Panabaka Lakshmi, Janaki Devi, Mahender Reddy, Raju and Bhanu Prakash Reddy. The team will visit Visakhapatnam and Narsipatnam (Andhra Pradesh) to hand over the ex-gratia cheques.
The other Committee members visiting Tamilnadu and Kerala include Rama Murty, Krishnamurthy Vaidyanathan, Naresh Kumar, Shanta Ram, and Suchitra Ella.
The committees will also verify and gather the job and education details of the respective families to provide one contract job for one person in each family as well as free education in TTD institutions.
Besides these, the teams will also hand over ex gratia cheques for Rs. 5 lakh and Rs. 2 lakh to the seriously and partially injured respectively.
