ANANTNAG: Continuing its efforts to eradicate menace of drugs, Police arrested a drug peddler and a bootlegger in Anantnag and recovered contraband substance & illicit liquor from their possession.
Officers from Police Post Sangam at a checkpoint established at Sangam Chowk intercepted a suspicious person, identified as Tawseef Ahmad, son of Gh Hassan, resident of Pujteng, Bijbehara. During checking, officers recovered 12 bottles of codeine phosphate and 10 gm heroin from his possession.
Meanwhile, Police party of Police Station Mattan at a checkpoint established at Kehribal Mattan intercepted a person, identified as Mohd Iqbal Raina, son of Gh Mohd Raina, resident of Kehribal Mattan. On checking, 40 bottles of illicit liquor were recovered from his possession. Both the accused were arrested and shifted to respective Police Stations where they remained in custody. Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law were registered at respective Police Stations and further investigations started.
