DODA: In prolongation of the ongoing programmes to commemorate the 75 years of Indian independence, a virtual training programme on the theme ecosystem management for sustainable fisheries for the farmers and field functionaries of the department of fisheries was today organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra Doda, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu. The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr J.P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST Jammu and was organized by the team of scientists of KVK Doda headed by Dr S.K. Gupta Director Extension SKUAST Jammu.
Farmers from Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban Districts and field extension functionaries of department of Fisheries Doda participated in the programme.Dr GN Jha Scientist Fisheries KVK Doda and Dr Raj Kumar Assistant Professor Fisheries SKUAST J Chatha were the resource persons for the programme. Dr Narinder Paul Scientist KVK Doda conducted the proceedings of the programme.
The programme started with the welcome address by Dr A.S. Charak, Senior Scientist and Head KVK Doda. While interacting with the participants during the programme, Dr GN Jha stressed upon the need of fish culture rather than the ongoing process of fish capture from the natural water bodies to maintain the sustainability in the ecosystem. This he said has potential to provide employment to the youth as well as meet out the nutritional requirements.
Dr Raj Kumar urged upon the participants for taking the benefits of different schemes of the Govt of India to initiate the fish production. Breeding aspects of different culturable fish for Chenab valley were also deliberated upon in detail during the programme.The programme ended with the vote of thanks by Dr Narinder Paul.
