RAJOURI: Army celebrates “Kargil Vijay Diwas” at Palma in District Rajouri (J&K) to honour the sacrifices made by Indian soldiers during the Kargil War in the summer of 1999. The event is celebrated every year to commemorate the victory of Indian Army over Pakistani intruders in Kargil. This year on the occasion of 22nd Kargil Vijay Diwas, a Jawa Motorcycle Rally was flagged off today from Rajouri to Kargil by Maj Gen Rajiv Puri, General Officer Commanding of Ace of Spades Division. The rally will be moving on old Mughal Route and will merge with other Motorcycle rallies commencing from Udhampur and Leh at Srinagar for further move to Drass. It will cover the entire state of Jammu and Kashmir. This Motorcycle rally is an appropriate celebration of National Integrity and Security in the state.
The team comprising of 15 riders from White Knight Corps will be crossing the formidable passes enroute at altitude over 15,000 feet covering a total distance of approx 400 kilometer in its journey from Sunderbani to Drass and will culminate the rally at Kargil War Memorial. The riders shall be interacting with Kargil War Veterans and Veer Naris enroute during the journey. Five War Veterans from Rajouri and Poonch region were interacted with today, who welcomed this gesture with lot of pride and honour. Riders will also pay homage to the martyrs of the Kargil War by laying wreath at Kargil War Memorial at Drass.
