JAMMU: Portraying real face of the model policing, Jammu Police on Saturday scripted yet another ‘success story’ with its one of the cops getting caught in brazen act of shoplifting. SPO Mohammed Shafi has been arrested.
“It generally happens, while unscrupulous police officers settle for big with accused persons or during investigations, the juniors down below lay hands on whatever comes their way”, an outraged onlooker said while getting to know about the shameful act of a person, who is supposed to be protector.
SPO Mohammed Shafi, belt number 285, son of Ghulam Rasool, resident of Mahore, posted at police post Kanjali in Shopian district has been arrested. He was found lifting a mobile device from a shop in Bus Stand area of Jammu, while surfing the CCTV footage.
According to reports, SPO Mohammed Shafi entered the shop to buy a mobile set. The man behind the counter showed him mobile sets of different makes and models. During the course of demonstration, the cop lifted one of the devices when the shopkeeper was getting more sets to demonstrate. After a while, Mohammed Shafi showed no inclination in buying the mobile and left the shop.
While placing the devices back in their respective places, the shopkeeper found one of the sets costing Rs 20,000 missing from the counter. He got panicky and raised alarm which caught the attention of the other shopkeepers and passersby. While pursuing the footage of the CCTV installed in the shop, SPO Mohammed Shafi was seen smartly and secretly picking up the mobile and pocketing it in one of the trouser-pockets.
The matter was brought to the notice of the Bus Stand Police Station and the photo of the SPO was shared with other shopkeepers as well.
Within minutes, the shoplifter was identified as a man from the belt force. Police swung into action and arrested him. Jammu Bus Stand Police has registered an FIR against him.
