KATHUA: The RT PCR laboratory, Department of Microbiology, GMC Kathua on Tuesday achieved the milestone of testing more than one lakh samples received for the molecular diagnosis of COVID-19.
This landmark milestone has been achieved by the laboratory nine days before the completion of one year of the start of RTPCR testing on August 19, 2020.
The RTPCR laboratory, GMC Kathua was the first among all new medical colleges established by the Government of J and K to bring tertiary care level management to all corners of the region.
The RTPCR laboratory has been established under the patronage of Additional Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo with consistent efforts of Principal GMC Kathua, Dr. Anjali Nadir Bhat.
The start of RTPCR laboratory in all medical colleges including GMC Kathua was possible due to vision of Additional Chief Secretary Health and Medical education, Atal Dulloo who had extended consistent support to the functioning of new GMCs.
Dr. Amrish Kohli, Assistant Professor, Department of Microbiology, GMC Kathua and incharge RTPCR laboratory described the laboratory and the likes of it throughout the UT as a beginning of the era of advanced diagnosis in the field of Viral research and management of such pandemics in future.
The RTPCR laboratory has been functioning tirelessly day and night since its start and has played a pivotal role in the management of peaks of pandemic by reporting the results in the shortest possible time.
It is presently serving the population of the two districts of Kathua and Samba and facilitating the RT PCR testing of all travellers at the Lakhanpur checkpoint that is the sole entry point to the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.
