JAMMU: On the eve of 75th Independence Day, a special yoga session was organized by National Development Foundation (NDF) Jammu in collaboration with Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari Jammu chapter. NDF staff and representatives of Vivekananda Kendra participated in the session. Jiva Sharma Senior Environment Engineer presided over the session.
In his opening remarks Rajiv Khajuria CEO National Development Foundation said that India became Independent after a long freedom struggle on 15th August 1947 due to the sacrifices of great National Hero’s . The Indian independence movement spanned from 1857 to 1947 and ended the British rule in India on 15th August 1947.
Khajuria also remembered the teachings of Swami Vivekananda and reminded the participants of his slogan ” Arise, Awake and stop not till the goal is achieved”.
He added that Indian culture is based on the philosophy of “Sarvey Bhavanto Sukhinah and Savey Santo Niramayah”, which means that everybody remains at peace, peace prevails everywhere and no one suffer from illness. The participants paid respects and homage to the hero’s of Indian Independence movement followed by a yoga session, which was led by Shiva Sikarwar State representative of Vivekananda Kendra. He taught various yoga Aasans to the participants.
Jiva Sharma in his address said that this Yoga session is organized to commemorate Independence day in order to supplement the Govt of India’s resolve of Fit India and to promote among masses particularly youth to yoga to tackle with mental health issues and for maintaining general fitness. Jiva Sharma quoted the Gita’s Sholakas ” Yogah Karmasu Kaushalam” means that yoga improves concentration and brings perfection in performing your day to day activities which culminates to attain spiritual elevation and Atam Sakshtar, which is the ultimate aim of life.
