Liquor smuggled from Punjab being sold in J&K

BATOTE: A huge consignment of liquor smuggled from Punjab has been recovered from a house at Thuppal area falling under the jurisdiction of Batote Police Station in District Ramban.
The smuggled liquor brands include Imperial Blue, Royal Challenge and McDowell. Police team led by SHO Batote Insp Ranjeet Rao on specific input conducted the raid at the house of one Khurshid Ahmed and recovered huge consignment of liquor bottles.
Sources informed that this house was being used to store the consignments of liquor smuggled from Punjab for further illegal sale in Doda, Kishtwar and other districts of Kashmir.
In a similar raid at Narwal, the Jammu police had earlier recovered over 800 liquor bottles smuggled from Punjab. After this recovery, the liquor smugglers changed their modus operandi and established the godowns outside Jammu for storing smuggled liquor bottles.
This godown at Batote was set up at the house of one Khurshid Ahmed. Sources informed that there are three to four more such godowns, on this route. Soon after the raid on late Friday night, Khurshid along with others managed to flee. Police has arrested two workers from the spot, who are being interrogated. An FIR has been registered. However, Ramban police has decided to give official statement tomorrow.
