HIRANAGAR: Appealing to the community members for a united fight, Ch Manmohan Singh, former Mayor and President All India Jat Maha Sabha (AIJMS) on Saturday reiterated demand for granting OBC status to Jats on the lines of other states.
He was chairing a meeting of All India Jat MahaSabha in Hiranagar. The conclave with many senior Jat leaders as participants resolved to raise the issue of OBC status with the government. They said nothing less than grant of OBC status will be accepted as this is the right of the community and no one can deny the same.
The meeting asserted that without getting this privilege, the community cannot progress and come out of the morass which currently is back-drifting the Jats and thus OBC status is the only panacea to come out of the misery.
Ch Manmohan Singh asserted that united we stand should be the slogan of Jats as otherwise the government will not accede to the demand. He said that by showing solidarity Jats can achieve their goal therefore unity is a must to get justice.
The Jat leader said that the aim can only be achieved by showing strength and unity of the community and fighting for the cause in one voice. He said already the Jat Maha Sabha is taking extraordinary measures to spread awareness among the community members spread across the length and breadth of the Union Territory to stand for their right together and for this, he would continue to pursue efforts. “If Center and other state government are giving this bounty to Jats then there is no weight in J&K administration logic of denying the same to community members in Union Territory and this is final that Jats will take away their right by all means”, he said and sought support of entire community to follow pursuit.
Ch Manmohan Singh said that he is visiting every Tehsil in the Union Territory to make up the mind of Jats to support only those entities in the ensuing polls which intend to give justice to Jats. He said that soon Hiranagar constituency will be declassified as reserved therefore it is necessary to bring a face from the community for the upcoming Assembly election as the constituency has over 12,000 votes Jats. He however said that he is ever-ready for any cause of the community members and anyone can approach him 24X7 for the same.
