REASI: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) celebrated Kisan Diwas (National Farmers Day)-2021 here at Paddar village of Thuroo block in Reasi district to mark the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister and farmer leader of India, Chaudhary Charan Singh.
The programme was attended by a large number of farmers, Panches, Sarpanches of the area and officers from line departments. The programme was organised under the dynamic stewardship of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof.JP Sharma and guidance of Director Extension, Prof.SK Gupta of SKUAST-J.
Dr.Banarsi Lal, Scientist and Head of KVK, Reasi welcomed the dignitaries and briefed about the significance of the event. He highlighted the extraordinary contribution of farmers in agriculture and stressed on empowering the farmers with the latest technologies. He said that farmers have pivotal role to raise the economy of the nation by increasing the crops production and productivity. He said that farmers are actively involved in providing the food to the nation and stressed on the need more trainings and technical advice on scientific farming.
He elaborated on the organic agriculture and guided farmers on the micro-entreneurship development in the rural areas so that their socio-economic condition can be improved. He also guided the farmers on the organic formulation and suggested them for mushroom cultivation, dairy farming, beekeeping, fruit and vegetables processing, Kadaknath farming etc.
Dr.Suja Nabi Qureshi, Scientist said that by commercial organic vegetables and fruits cultivation they can generate extra income and employment in the area. He also spoke on entrepreneurship development in horticulture and added that they should adopt the advance technologies in the horticultural sector to enhance their farm income. Anil Thakur, Agriculture Extension Officer, Department of Agriculture spoke on the various schemes implemented for the farmers in the district. Rakesh Kumar, HDO, Sushil Thakur, Hardev Singh and others were also present during the occasion. During the programme the knapsack sprayers and quality animal feed was also provided to the farmers by the KVK, Reasi.
Farmers interacted with the KVK scientists and asked various technical quarries which were answered by the scientists in a satisfactorily way. The programme was assisted by Manohar Lal.
