STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: The Government on Friday constituted the City Level Task Force(s) for Jammu and Srinagar cities for elimination of Single Use Plastic in the J&K. “In continuation of Government Order No. 1073-JK(GAD) of 2021 dated October 11, 2021, sanction is accorded to the constitution of City Level Task Forces for Jammu and Srinagar cities for monitoring elimination of Single Use Plastic,” reads an order issued by Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, Commissioner/ Secretary, General Administration Department. As per order, the City Level Task Force for Jammu will be headed by Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation as its Chairman while Secretary, Jammu Municipal Corporation will be its Convener and Additional District Magistrate, Jammu and District Officer, J&K Pollution Control Committee, Jammu will be its MEmbers. The City Level Task Force for Srinagar will be headed by Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation as its Chairman while Secretary, Srinagar Municipal Corporation will be its Convener and Additional District Magistrate, Srinagar and District Officer, J&K Pollution Control Committee, Srinagar will be its Members, the order added. “The City Level Task Force shall monitor strict implementation of UT level Comprehensive Action Plan for elimination of Single Use Plastic in the Jammu/Srinagar cities,” the order stated and added it also mobilize and build a strong public movement for elimination of Single Use Plastic with wider public participation, including educational institutions (Schools, Colleges, Universities, etc), NCC, NSS, Scouts, Youth Clubs, Eco Clubs, Opinion Makers and Voluntary Organizations. “The City Level Task Force shall encourage and promote manufacture & usage of eco-friendly biodegradable substitutes for Single Use Plastic and also implement & enforce Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016,” read an order.
