JAMMU: Congress conducted a meeting with district leaders of Jammu East at party office to discuss important issues on Thursday. The meeting was chaired by former Minister J&K Yogesh Sawhney, General Secretary PCC Incharge District President Jammu (U). Apart from discussing upcoming and ongoing programmes of party and their implementation in Jammu East constituency, the District Congress leaders also condemned the recent remarks of Prime Minister and other BJP leaders regarding Punjab Chief Minister, Charanjit Singh Channi. The senior leaders who attended the meeting included Dr Ramakant Khajuria, Ritu Choudhary, Pawan Dev Singh, Atul Sharma, Chander Shekhar, Anil kumar and Sahil.
Speaking at the meeting, former Minister Yogesh Sawhney criticized statements of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other BJP leaders accusing Punjab Chief Minister of lapse in security arrangements made for Prime Minister’s visit. He bashed BJP leaders for accusing Chief Minister of a state of having ‘murderous’ intentions and deliberately trying to twist facts so as to defame a revered leader. “Prime Minister’s rally flopped and that is why he left the State and not because of excuses, which BJP leadership is making right now,” he added. “All arrangements were made in tandem with SPG and other agencies. While we regret what happened, but it suffices to the fact that there was no threat to PM’s life. There was no security lapse and all forces involved carried out their responsibilities in the best way depending on circumstances,” he asserted, adding that BJP should not politicise the issue in an attempt to villainize Punjab Government.
