There was a modest increase in the annual defence budget despite the continuing military confrontation with China. But the government strongly pushed for ‘Atmanirbharta’ (self-reliance) with 68% of the capital procurement allocation earmarked for domestic industry as well as 25% of the R&D budget for private industry, startups and academia.
