JAMMU: NSS unit of GCW Bhagwati Nagar organized a five day long winter camp.
On the first day, cleanliness drive was carried out by NSS volunteers in and around the college campus. On the second day, plantation drive was organized within the college campus by the NSS students.
Om Nagar village within the vicinity of the college was adopted few months back and a visit was organized on the third day of the camp. Eatables were distributed to the children and the volunteers delivered talks about gender sensitization and personal hygiene .
Subsequently, on the fourth day of the camp the students have started teaching children from the village, who had never been to school earlier.
The village children are about fifteen in number .Refreshment is also being provided to these students on a regular basis. On the concluding day of the camp National science day was celebrated in collaboration with department of environmental sciences by organizing a poster making competition on the topic “prominent Indian scientist and their contributions”.
Principal of the college, Prof .Minnie Sharma appreciated the efforts of the students and the staff and also encouraged them to carry such activities for the betterment and upliftment of the society.
The programme was organized by the NSS officer Prof. Anju Bala and all the committee members.
