TIP OF ICEBERG

India cannot ignore the deteriorating situation as far as resurging of COVID-19 is concerned in several countries in Asia especially the China, which reportedly was the place from where this contagion ‘took flight’ and traversed across the seas and oceans to brutally kill people after they were caught unaware of this most dreadful virus of all times. It is worrying that the fresh cases of COVID-19 are again spiking globally after several weeks of decline and this rise is just the tip of the iceberg. In this regard, World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has warned that the pandemic is not yet over and it is advisable for the countries to continue with the precautions as after China and Hong Kong, now South Korea has witnessed alarming surge by recording over 6,00,000 new coronavirus cases, the highest daily spike the country has witnessed so far. With each country facing a different situation with different challenges, one thing is sure that the pandemic is not over and threat is still here though the cases reported from South Korea are of Omicron which already has wreaked havoc in India recently. The WHO has taken serious cognizance of the surge in coronavirus cases and has given a clarion call to remain vigilant, administer vaccine jabs to maximum people, test, sequence, provide early care for patients, and apply adequate public health measures to protect health workers and the public. Researchers in IIT Kanpur have already predicted another strong wave in India therefore people should not take things lightly and go for the precautions with complete seriousness. It is pertinent to mention that as of March 13, 2022, over 455 million confirmed COVID-19 cases and over 6 million related deaths have been reported globally. One can expect a surge as in many places curbs have been lifted fully and therefore maintaining social distancing and wearing masks are still the best options available to people to remain safe. The governments both Central and the UT Government in J&K should issue directions to save people from destruction again as no one can predict about coronavirus and its upcoming effects.
