SMPB organises stakeholders’ meet cum workshop at Bhadarwah

BHADARWAH: To boost the cultivation of medicinal plants in district Doda, Regional Cum Facilitation Centre Northern Region II(RCFCNR-II), NMPB(National Medicinal Plants Board) of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agriculture, Science and Technology Kashmir (SKUAST-K) in collaboration with State Medicinal Plants Board (SMPB) J&K organised a stakeholders meet cum workshop on ‘Medicinal Plant Cultivation: opportunities and challenges’.
The event was organised at Dak Bungalow Bhadarwah on Saturday, in which large number of stakeholders including progressive farmers participated.
The programme was hosted by Dr Mudassir Ahmed Dar, Dy Director Regional Cum Facilitation Centre Northern Region II, NMPB, in which CEO BDA Navdeep Wazir was the chief guest, while DFO Chander Shekhar was guest of honour. Dr Iftikhar Ahmed Malik Nodal officer Medicinal Plants District Doda coordinated the event.
State Medicinal Plant Borad J&K, Nodal Officer Dr Waheed-ul-Hassan and Regional Director Regional Cum Facilitation Centre Northern Region II, NMPB Prof Sheikh Bilal Ahmed were special speakers on the occasion, who discussed the benefits of medicinal plants in length and breadth, beside gave detailed information about it’s cultivation and Marketing.
While speaking on the occasion, Regional Director, Regional Cum Facilitation Centre Northern Region II, NMPB Prof Sheikh Bilal Ahmed urged upon small and marginal farmers of the area to switch from traditional farming towards more profitable Medicinal plants so that they can earn more from their respective fields.
The participants were imparted with basic technical know-how to grow Medicinal plants by the experts of State Medicinal Plant Board and Regional Cum Facilitation Centre Northern Region II, NMPB.
Dr Iftikhar Ahmed Malik Nodal officer Medicinal Plants District Doda assured all the necessary support for upliftment of the farmers and unemployed youth of district Doda.
Progressive farmers Touqeer Bagban and Rajat Raina were felicitated on the occasion for their successful cultivation of Medicinal plants Kuth and Burberry.
Progressive farmers and entrepreneurs including Abdul Guffar Bagban were also present on the occasion, who highlighted various issues relating to cultivation of Medicinal plants in District Doda.
