SAMBA: The Department of Botany, Basanter Eco Club and NSS unit of Pt.Prem Nath Dogra GDC Samba celebratred Plashotasav on Tuesday. Many students of this college as well as Degree College of Hiranagar took part in various activities like Rangoli, painting, speeches and models making.
Dr. O P Sharma was the chief guest of the occasion. The event started with the arrival of guests and Principal Dr. Ashok Bhagat. The lightening of traditional lamp was conducted to seek the blessing of Goddess. The students presented bouquet to chief guests and other dignitaries. KK Sharma and Karan Singh spoke on the occasion and stressed to the plant Palash tree around our homes as it has medicinal values. Balkar Singh, a Dogri poet also expressed the importance of this particular plant Palash through a Dogri poem titled “SukhaViriksh”.
Some students also shared their view points on Palash trees. The chief guest OP Sharma talked to the students on Palash tree and emphasized on its importance. After deliverance of his speech, he interacted with students. In the end, prizes and certificates were distributed among the students. Three students of semester 5th named Tania Pangotra secured 1st prize, Arti Chib secured 2nd prize and Neha Sharma got 3rd prize. The entire programme was done under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Ashok Bhagat. The department of botany, Basantar Eco Club and NSS Unit lauded the role of students who made programme a Gala event. Prof. Vijay Kumar (HOD Botany) has also emphasized on the importance and conservation of Palash trees.
Dr. Yashpaul Singh delivered the vote of thanks and the whole event was anchored by Dr. Geeta Lakhotra, NSS programme officer.
