The BJP fact-finding team has urged the party leadership to request the Centre for a CBI inquiry in the killings in Birbhum district of West Bengal claiming that the village is still deserted as people fear for their lives if they return. The strong-worded BJP report drew sharp reaction from Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, who said the document would “weaken and interfere” with the CBI probe in the case.
