Sarpanch’s husband arrested in bribery case

SRINAGAR: Husband of a Sarpanch was arrested in a bribery case by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Ganderbal district on Thursday.
As per officials, ACB received a written complaint, alleging therein that Hassan Jan, Sarpanch of Halqa Anderwan in Kangan area of district, had demanded an amount of Rs 9,000 as bribe for release of payment under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana, after which FIR No. 13/2022 under sections 7 of PC Act 1988 was registered at Police Station ACB, Srinagar and investigation started.
During course of investigation, a team of ACB caught Liyaqat Ali, husband of Hassan Jan, while accepting an amount of Rs 9,000 as bribe from the complainant, the officials said.
The bribe money was recovered from his possession in presence of independent witnesses, they said, adding that further investigations were underway.
