JAMMU: With some brilliant display of Chess, Madhvendra Pratap Sharma of Madhya Pradesh emerged sole leader at seven points after round seven in the 34th MPL National U-10 Chess (boys and girls) Championship at Kangra Fort banquet Hall, Barnai in the outskirts of the city, here today.
Madhvendra was closely followed by Aansh of Maharashtra, Sanjay of Tamil Nadu and Apaar Saxena of Karnataka in Open event. Similarly, in girls section, Hanya Shah of Gujarat, Charvi A of Karnataka were at joint lead at 6.5 points each after seventh round.
Earlier, the seventh round was jointly inaugurated by Chief Prosecution Officer (CPO), Raj Kumar and Principal, Mohinder Sharma. Later, in the evening, eighth round of the competition declared open by vice president of the All J&K Chess Association (AJKCA), Kuljeet Singh Jamwal. Both the special guests wished good luck to young and budding participants.
Total 11 rounds will be played under Swiss system and top 10 games are being live covered worldwide with the support of DGT Boards which are used first time in J&K. About 500 persons including 247, players, coaches, managers, arbiters, Live game operators and other various officials from 26 states are participating in this event. Pairing is done with Swiss software.
The event carries a total prize fund of Rs.five lacs which will be distributed among top 15 from each category 1st prize being Rs.70000 in each category.
