At a time when the Sangam city celebrates November 1 as the day when Prayagraj (erstwhile Allahabad) was made the nation’s capital for one day on November 1, 1858, few would be knowing that it was in 1836 that a proposal was moved to make Prayagraj as the capital of the entire North-West Province -present day state of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
