DELHI, July 25: Ladakh’s Member of Parliament (MP), Jamyang Tsering Namgyal (JTN), today met with the Union Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, in New Delhi.
The Member Parliament submitted a memorandum urging the approval of 292 Bhoti language teachers for all Government schools in Ladakh.
In a statement, he said, the Bhoti language holds cultural and linguistic significance in Ladakh, but with the division of Jammu & Kashmir into two Union Territories, the current 33 Bhoti language teacher posts are inadequate to meet the educational needs.
As Ladakh’s Government schools transitioned to CBSE and implement the National Educational Policy, students must choose three languages up to 8th Standard and two languages from 9th to 12th class, he said.
Recognizing the demand for the English-Hindi-Bhoti language combination in Leh Ladakh, the Administration has already proposed 292 Bhoti language teacher positions.
MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal appreciated funding support under Samagra Shiksha and the approval of 709 Hindi teachers and 125 Urdu teachers, enhancing educational facilities in Ladakh.
Earlier, MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal introduced a Private Member Bill in Parliament, establishing Bhoti Language Day on 1st April every year by the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Leh.
He successfully included Bhoti Language in the CBSE Syllabus in April 2023, stressing the need for resources to support its implementation.
MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal earnestly requested approval of 292 Bhoti teachers for a comprehensive educational experience, preserving Ladakh’s cultural heritage and fostering pride among students.
Namgyal hoped the Ministry of Education will consider this matter’s significance and grant approval promptly.
